The album was announced in December 2023 without a release date. The collection contains contributions from artists such as [Planning for Burial](/source/Planning_for_Burial), [Have a Nice Life](/source/Have_a_Nice_Life), and [Midwife](/source/Madeline_Johnston) among other bands, and was collated and released by the record label [The Flenser](/source/The_Flenser).

## Background

Mimi Jo Parker was born in 1967 near [Bemidji](/source/Bemidji), Minnesota. In primary school, Parker met [Alan Sparhawk](/source/Alan_Sparhawk), who she would later marry and have two children with. The two would form [Low](/source/Low_(band)) in 1993, alongside bassist John Nichols. Low would help pioneer a genre of [indie rock](/source/Indie_rock) music that came to be known as "[slowcore](/source/Slowcore)", and in so doing, garnered a significant reputation in the underground music scene. Low released music until their final album, *[Hey What](/source/Hey_What)*, in 2021. Throughout their career, they released 13 albums.[1]

Parker died on 7 November 2022 from [ovarian cancer](/source/Ovarian_cancer).[1] In December 2023, [The Flenser](/source/The_Flenser) announced they would be releasing a [tribute album](/source/Tribute_album) in her honour.[2][3] The idea had originated prior to her death, in a conversation with [Planning for Burial](/source/Planning_for_Burial)'s Tom Wasluck and The Flenser.[4] Allison Lorenzen released the first single, a cover of "Words" from Low's 1994 debut *[I Could Live in Hope](/source/I_Could_Live_in_Hope)*, on 19 December 2023.[5] This was followed up shortly after on 24 December by Planning for Burial's cover of "Murderer", from 2007's *[Drums and Guns](/source/Drums_and_Guns)*.[6] In 2024, the third and fourth singles were released. On 13 March [Drowse](/source/Drowse) and Lula Asplund released their cover of "Hey Chicago" from the 1997 [extended play](/source/Extended_play) *[Songs for a Dead Pilot](/source/Songs_for_a_Dead_Pilot)*.[7] One month later, on 24 April, [Have a Nice Life](/source/Have_a_Nice_Life)'s cover of "When I Go Deaf", from the 2005 album *[The Great Destroyer](/source/The_Great_Destroyer)*, was released.[8]

The album was released on 24 May 2024.[9]
