==Biography==
Born in [Chişinău](/source/Chi%C5%9Fin%C4%83u) in the [Russian Empire](/source/Russian_Empire) (now in [Moldova](/source/Moldova)), Coren studied law at university and was certified as a lawyer.<ref name=K>{{cite web|url=https://main.knesset.gov.il/en/MK/APPS/mk/mk-print/597|title=Knesset Member Yitzhak Coren|website=Knesset}}</ref> Whilst a student he was amongst the leadership of the [Romania](/source/Romania)n Zionists Student Association.<ref name=K/> He served as secretary of [Tze'irei Zion](/source/Tze'irei_Zion) and was a member of the Zionist Federation of Bessarabia's presidium, editing their Yiddish language newspaper.<ref name=K/>

In 1940 he [emigrated](/source/aliyah) to [Mandatory Palestine](/source/Mandatory_Palestine) and became a member of the [Haganah](/source/Haganah).<ref name=K/> Between 1941 and 1943 he worked as director of the Department of Information and Organization of the [Histadrut](/source/Histadrut)'s Supply Centre, before serving as secretary of the [Moshavim Movement](/source/Moshavim_Movement) between 1944 and 1961.<ref name=K/> In 1949 he was amongst the founders of the "From [Ma'abarot](/source/Ma'abarot) to Village" settlement project<ref name=K/>

In [1959](/source/1959_Israeli_legislative_election) Coren was elected to the Knesset on the Mapai list.<ref name=K/> He retained his seat in the [1961 elections](/source/1961_Israeli_legislative_election) and was appointed Deputy [Minister of Finance](/source/Finance_Minister_of_Israel) in the [tenth government](/source/Tenth_government_of_Israel) on 30 May 1956, serving until the government left office on 26 June the following year.<ref name=K/> He lost his seat in [1965](/source/1965_Israeli_legislative_election), but returned to the Knesset on the Alignment list (an alliance of the [Labor Party](/source/Israeli_Labor_Party) (formed by a merger of Mapai, [Ahdut HaAvoda](/source/Ahdut_HaAvoda) and [Rafi](/source/Rafi_(political_party))) and [Mapam](/source/Mapam)) following the [1969 elections](/source/1969_Israeli_legislative_election), but lost his seat again in [1973](/source/1973_Israeli_legislative_election). Between 1964 and 1979 he served as secretary of the World Union of [Labor Zionists](/source/Labor_Zionism).<ref name=K/>

Coren died in 1994.<ref name=K/> His daughter Ruth married politician [Moshe Nissim](/source/Moshe_Nissim), who held several ministerial portfolios in the 1980s and early 1990s, whilst his son [Dani](/source/Dani_Koren) was briefly an MK for the Labor Party in 2006.
