**Yip Pui Yin** ([Chinese](/source/Traditional_Chinese_characters): 葉姵延; [Jyutping](/source/Jyutping): *jip6 bui6 jin4*; born 6 August 1987) is a [badminton](/source/Badminton) player from [Hong Kong](/source/Hong_Kong).

## Career

Yip played at the [2005 World Badminton Championships](/source/2005_World_Badminton_Championships) in Anaheim. In the women's singles event she reached the third round after beating [Laura Molina](/source/Laura_Molina_(badminton)) of Spain and [Kanako Yonekura](/source/Kanako_Yonekura) (11th seed) in round one and round two respectively. In the third round she was beaten by the 1st seed and reigning world champion [Zhang Ning](/source/Zhang_Ning) of China.

She won the silver medal in the [2006 Asian Games](/source/Badminton_at_the_2006_Asian_Games) after losing to fellow Hong Kong player [Wang Chen](/source/Wang_Chen_(badminton_player)) in the final. In 2007, she played at the [World Championships](/source/2007_BWF_World_Championships) and was defeated in the third round by [Zhu Lin](/source/Zhu_Lin_(badminton)), of [China](/source/China), 9–21, 21–16, 14–21. Yip made her first appearance at the [2008 Summer Olympics](/source/Badminton_at_the_2008_Summer_Olympics).[1] In 2009, she won the gold medal in the [2009 East Asian Games](/source/2009_East_Asian_Games) when her opponent Zhou Mi retired halfway through the deciding set. She won 15–21, 21–13, 17–10.

At the [2012 London Olympics](/source/Badminton_at_the_2012_Summer_Olympics), Yip won against eighth seed [Sung Ji-hyun](/source/Sung_Ji-hyun), of South Korea, in the group stage. Then Yip went through to the final eight of the [women's singles in badminton](/source/Badminton_at_the_2012_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Women's_singles) after she beat France's 16th seed [Pi Hongyan](/source/Pi_Hongyan) by two games to one, winning 13–21, 21–13, 21–16. Yip faced China's [Li Xuerui](/source/Li_Xuerui), who beat her two games to one.[2][1] Her performance equalled the best performance by a Hong Kong shuttler at the Olympic Games.[3]
