{{short description|Chinese Warring States commandery}}
'''Yingchuan Commandery''' ({{lang-zh|潁川郡}}) was a Chinese [commandery](/source/Jun_(country_subdivision)) from the [Warring States period](/source/Warring_States_period) to [Tang dynasty](/source/Tang_dynasty), located in modern central [Henan](/source/Henan) province. The name referred to the [Ying River](/source/Ying_River), which flowed through its territory.

The commandery was established by the [state of Qin](/source/state_of_Qin) after it conquered [Hán](/source/state_of_Han). The seat was Yangdi (陽翟, modern [Yuzhou, Henan](/source/Yuzhou%2C_Henan)), which, according to legend, was the capital of [Yu the Great](/source/Yu_the_Great), and was the capital of the Warring States era [State of Han](/source/State_of_Han). After the establishment of [Hàn dynasty](/source/Han_dynasty), it originally became [Xin, King of Hán](/source/Xin%2C_King_of_Han)'s fief. However, Xin was soon moved to [Taiyuan](/source/Taiyuan_Commandery), and the commandery was restored. In 2 AD, it administered 20 counties: Yangdi, Kunyang (昆陽), Yingyang (潁陽), Dingling (定陵), Changshe (長社), Xinji (新汲), [Xiangcheng](/source/Xiangcheng_County%2C_Henan) (襄城), [Yan](/source/Luohe) (郾), [Jia](/source/Jia_County%2C_Henan) (郟), [Wuyang](/source/Wuyang_County) (舞陽), Yingyin (潁陰), [Chonggao](/source/Dengfeng) (崇高), [Xu](/source/Xuchang) (許), [Yanling](/source/Yanling_County%2C_Henan) (傿陵), [Linying](/source/Linying_County) (臨潁), Fucheng (父城), Cheng'an (成安), Zhouchengxiu (周承休), Yangcheng (陽城), and Guanshi (綸氏). The population was 2,210,973, in 432,491 households.<ref>''[Book of Han](/source/Book_of_Han)'', Chapter 28.</ref> In eastern Han dynasty, the commandery administered 17 counties. The population was 1,436,513 in 140 AD, in 263,440 households.<ref>''[Book of Later Han](/source/Book_of_Later_Han)'', Chapter 110.</ref>

During [Emperor Xian of Han](/source/Emperor_Xian_of_Han)'s reign, the imperial court was moved to Xu, the home city of [Cao Cao](/source/Cao_Cao), as did the seat of the commandery. In [Jin dynasty](/source/Jin_dynasty_(265%E2%80%93420)), Xiangcheng Commandery was formed from the southern part of Yingchuan. 9 Counties remained in Yingchuan. According to the ''[Book of Jin](/source/Book_of_Jin)'', the commandery had 28,300 households.<ref>''[Book of Jin](/source/Book_of_Jin)'', Chapter 14.</ref>

In [Northern Wei](/source/Northern_Wei), several new commanderies was established in the area. They were administered by Ying Prefecture (潁州, established in 535), later renamed Zheng (鄭州), and in [Northern Zhou](/source/Northern_Zhou), again to Xu (許州).<ref>''[Book of Sui](/source/Book_of_Sui)'', Chapter 30.</ref>

In [Sui](/source/Sui_dynasty) and [Tang](/source/Tang_dynasty) dynasties, the original commanderies were abolished and Yingchuan Commandery became an alternative name of Xu Prefecture. It administered 9 counties, and in 741, the population was 487,864, in 73,347 households.<ref>''[New Book of Tang](/source/New_Book_of_Tang)'', Chapter 28.</ref>
