**Ying e Chi** (Chinese: 影意志) is a non-profit organization formed in 1997 by a group of independent filmmakers in [Hong Kong](/source/Hong_Kong).[1][2] Ying e Chi Limited is incorporated on 7 May 1999.[3] Independent film makers of Ying e Chi include [Vincent Chui](/source/Vincent_Chui),[4] Kwok Wai-lun, [Simon Chung](/source/Simon_Chung),[4] Charlie Lam and Lawrence Wong.[citation needed] Ying e Chi co-founded the [Hong Kong Asian Film Festival](/source/Hong_Kong_Asian_Film_Festival) (Chinese: 香港亞洲電影節). Later, they parted ways with [HKAFF Society Limited](/source/HKAFF_Society_Limited), and self-organized [Hong Kong Independent Film Festival](/source/Hong_Kong_Independent_Film_Festival) since 2008.[5][1]

During the years, several independent films are distributed by Ying e Chi, including *[Yellowing](/source/Yellowing_(film))* (2016), *[Lost in the Fumes](/source/Lost_in_the_Fumes)* (2017), *[Last Exit to Kai Tak](/source/Last_Exit_to_Kai_Tak)* (2018), *[Taking Back the Legislature](/source/Taking_Back_the_Legislature)* (2020), *[Inside the Red Brick Wall](/source/Inside_the_Red_Brick_Wall)* (2020).[6] These films are politically sensitive and mostly about the Hong Kong protests, and other cinema would not air them.[4] Because of its stance in the political landscape of Hong Kong, Ying e Chi is often attacked by [pro-Beijing](/source/Pro-Beijing_camp_(Hong_Kong)) media, namely *[Wen Wei Po](/source/Wen_Wei_Po)*[7] and *[Ta Kung Pao](/source/Ta_Kung_Pao)*.[8] This is especially true during the [anti-extradition bill movement](/source/2019%E2%80%932020_Hong_Kong_protests).

Ying e Chi lost government funding from the [Hong Kong Arts Development Council](/source/Hong_Kong_Arts_Development_Council) in 2021, and was unable to renew its contract with [Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre](/source/Jockey_Club_Creative_Arts_Centre) for its studio.[9] Ying e Chi later officially disbanded in 2024.[10] One of its original founders, [Vincent Chui](/source/Vincent_Chui), appeared to be restarting the organization in Taiwan by organizing the HK Indie Short Film Award 2025 under the name of Ying e Chi.[9]
