**Yap Roy King** ([Chinese](/source/Simplified_Chinese_characters): 叶睿庆; [pinyin](/source/Pinyin): *Yè Ruìqìng*; born 10 February 2001) is a Malaysian [badminton](/source/Badminton) player.[1][2] He won two silver medals at the [2023 SEA Games](/source/Badminton_at_the_2023_SEA_Games), in the men's team event[3] as well as the mixed doubles event.[4]

## Career

Yap made his international debut at the Jakarta Open Junior International U-15 in 2015.

### 2019

In August, he won his first international tournament at the Malaysia Junior International together with [Ooi Jhy Dar](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Ooi_Jhy_Dar&action=edit&redlink=1) in men's doubles and [Gan Jing Err](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Gan_Jing_Err&action=edit&redlink=1) in mixed doubles.[5] In the following week, he and Ooi won their second title in two weeks at the India Junior International.[6]

In October, Yap competed at the [2019 World Junior Championships](/source/2019_BWF_World_Junior_Championships). He and Gan reached the mixed doubles event quarter-finals but lost to Thailand's [Ratchapol Makkasasithorn](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Ratchapol_Makkasasithorn&action=edit&redlink=1) and [Benyapa Aimsaard](/source/Benyapa_Aimsaard).[7]

### 2021

In August, Yap won two titles at the [Latvia International](/source/Latvia_International) together with [Muhammad Nurfirdaus Azman](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Muhammad_Nurfirdaus_Azman&action=edit&redlink=1) in men's doubles and [Valeree Siow](/source/Valeree_Siow) in mixed doubles.[8]

In the following month, he and Siow won another two more titles back-to-back, the [Hellas International](/source/Hellas_International) and the [Ukraine International](/source/Ukraine_International_(badminton)).[9]

### 2023

In May, Yap made his debut at the [2023 SEA Games](/source/Badminton_at_the_2023_SEA_Games) where he helped Malaysia win a silver medal in the [men's team](/source/Badminton_at_the_2023_SEA_Games_%E2%80%93_Men's_team) event.[3] He later partnered with [Cheng Su Yin](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Cheng_Su_Yin&action=edit&redlink=1) in the [mixed doubles](/source/Badminton_at_the_2023_SEA_Games_%E2%80%93_Individual_event#Mixed_doubles) event and went on to win silver, falling to Indonesia's [Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto](/source/Rehan_Naufal_Kusharjanto) and [Lisa Ayu Kusumawati](/source/Lisa_Ayu_Kusumawati) in the final.[4]

In June, he captured the [Nantes International](/source/Nantes_International) men's doubles title partnered with [Junaidi Arif](/source/Junaidi_Arif).[10]

In July, he was crowned double national champion after winning the 2023 [National Championships](/source/Malaysian_National_Badminton_Championships) men's doubles event with Arif and the mixed doubles event with Siow.[11]

In September, Yap and Siow entered the final of [Indonesia Masters I](/source/2023_Indonesia_Masters_Super_100_I). They successfully captured the mixed doubles title after defeating Japan's [Hiroki Nishi](/source/Hiroki_Nishi) and [Akari Sato](/source/Akari_Sato) in three games.[12]

### 2024

In late March, playing only their second tournament of the year after an injury layoff, Yap and Arif advanced to the [Spain Masters](/source/2024_Spain_Masters) final.[13] They fell to [Sabar Karyaman Gutama](/source/Sabar_Karyaman_Gutama) and [Muhammad Reza Pahlevi Isfahani](/source/Muhammad_Reza_Pahlevi_Isfahani) in three games, finishing as runners-up.[14]

### 2025

In July right before the upcoming [2025 BWF World Championships](/source/2025_BWF_World_Championships), Yap and Arif won their maiden title in men's doubles at [Macau Open](/source/2025_Macau_Open_(badminton)) against Sabar and Reza, on a slippery court and having tremendous delay in between during matches.[15]
