Born in [Brussels](/source/Brussels), Mbombo is a youth exponent of [Standard Liège](/source/Standard_Li%C3%A8ge). He made his professional debut for the club on 12 December 2013 in a [UEFA Europa League](/source/UEFA_Europa_League) game against Swedish side [IF Elfsborg](/source/IF_Elfsborg) as a starter.
