'''Yaiza''' is a small town in the island of [Lanzarote](/source/Lanzarote) in the [Canary Islands](/source/Canary_Islands), [Spain](/source/Spain). It lies in the southwest of the island. The population in 2012 was 857.[[http://www.ine.es/nomen2/index.do?accion=busquedaAvanzada&entidad_amb=no&codProv=35&codMuni=34&codEC=0&codES=7&codNUC=0&L=0 INE]] The town gives its name to the [municipality](/source/municipality) of [Yaiza](/source/Yaiza_(municipality)), although it is much smaller than the largest settlement in the municipality, [Playa Blanca](/source/Playa_Blanca).
The town has a town hall, tree-lined streets, and a floodlit public football stadium.
Each year, at Christmas, Yaiza displays a large "Belén" (a belén is a [nativity scene](/source/nativity_scene)). The Yaiza Belén includes miniaturised scenes from around the island, with miniatures of Playa Blanca, [Arrecife](/source/Arrecife), and [Timanfaya](/source/Timanfaya). Children and visitors are encouraged to seek the [caganer](/source/caganer), a figurine of a young man defecating, as it is considered good luck to spot him.
[Highway LZ2](/source/LZ2_(Lanzarote)) connects the town to Playa Blanca in the south and [Arrecife](/source/Arrecife%2C_Las_Palmas) to the east.

Yaiza has a hot desert climate ([Köppen](/source/K%C3%B6ppen_climate_classification): ''BWh''; [Trewartha](/source/Trewartha_climate_classification): ''BWal'') with an annual precipitation of only {{Convert|97.8|mm}} and no more than 24 days of precipitation.
