Xiuying Fort 秀英炮台 Haikou, Hainan, China Location

**Xiuying Fort** ([simplified Chinese](/source/Simplified_Chinese_characters): 秀英炮台; [traditional Chinese](/source/Traditional_Chinese_characters): 秀英砲臺; [pinyin](/source/Pinyin): *Xiùyīng Paòtaí*) (designation number: 6-1031) is located in [Haikou](/source/Haikou) City, Hainan Province, China.

## History

It was constructed in 1890 by the [Qing](/source/Qing_Dynasty) government to counter the [threat of the French](/source/Sino%E2%80%93French_War).[1]

It was used to defend against the 1890 invasion by France, and in 1932 against the Japanese during the [Cole attack](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Cole_attack&action=edit&redlink=1).[*[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)*]
