[Duke Dao of Lu](/source/Duke_Dao_of_Lu) ([鲁悼公](/source/%3Azh%3A%E9%B2%81%E6%82%BC%E5%85%AC)) granted him land and created him [Marquis](/source/Marquis) of Xia ({{zh|c=夏侯|p=xiàhóu}}), after their ancestor's, [Yu the Great](/source/Yu_the_Great)'s, dynastic name, Xia (夏).
