# Xeroplexa

***Xeroplexa***[1] is a [genus](/source/Genus) of small, air-breathing [land snails](/source/Land_snail), [terrestrial](/source/Terrestrial_animal) [pulmonate](/source/Pulmonate) [gastropod](/source/Gastropod) [mollusks](/source/Mollusk) in the subfamily [Helicellinae](/source/Helicellinae) of the family [Geomitridae](/source/Geomitridae),[2] the hairy snails and their allies.[3][4]

*Xeroplexa* species were within genus *[Candidula](/source/Candidula)* until a molecular phylogeny revealed the [polyphyly](/source/Polyphyly) of *[Candidula](/source/Candidula)*, and the genus *Xeroplexa* [Monterosato](/source/Tommaso_di_Maria_Allery_Monterosato), 1892 was recovered.[2]

## Distribution

The genus is mainly distributed along [western Iberian Peninsula](/source/List_of_non-marine_molluscs_of_Portugal), although *X. intersecta* spreads from northern [Iberian Peninsula](/source/Iberian_Peninsula) to [central Europe](/source/Central_Europe) and [British Islands](/source/British_Islands).[5][2]
