# Xerogyra

***Xerogyra***[1] is a [genus](/source/Genus) of small, air-breathing [land snails](/source/Land_snail), [terrestrial](/source/Terrestrial_animal) [pulmonate](/source/Pulmonate) [gastropod](/source/Gastropod) [mollusks](/source/Mollusk) in the family [Geomitridae](/source/Geomitridae).[2]

The genus is distributed in the [Italian Peninsula](/source/Italian_Peninsula). *Xerogyra* species were within the genus *[Candidula](/source/Candidula)* until a molecular phylogeny revealed the [polyphyly](/source/Polyphyly) of *[Candidula](/source/Candidula)* and, the genus *Xerogyra* [Monterosato](/source/Tommaso_di_Maria_Allery_Monterosato), 1892 was recovered.[2]
