Minniecon was born in [Rockhampton, Queensland](/source/Rockhampton%2C_Queensland) on 4 July 1967. He moved to [Darwin, Northern Territory](/source/Darwin%2C_Northern_Territory) in his late teens and attended [Darwin High School](/source/Darwin_High_School), where he matriculated. Minniecon's media career began in Darwin in 1985 as a [police](/source/police) and [court](/source/court) [radio](/source/radio) [reporter](/source/reporter) for the [Australian Broadcasting Corporation](/source/Australian_Broadcasting_Corporation) (ABC), and then later as a television weather presenter for ABC. Minniecon's recreational interests include cooking, meditation and massage therapy.
