The '''Wynyard Walk''' is a {{convert|180|m|ft|adj=mid|-long}} [pedestrian link](/source/walkway) and [tunnel](/source/Subway_(underpass)) between [Wynyard station](/source/Wynyard_railway_station%2C_Sydney) and [Barangaroo](/source/Barangaroo%2C_New_South_Wales) in the [Sydney central business district](/source/Sydney_central_business_district). The walkway was officially opened on 20 September 2016. Wynyard Walk provides a quick and safe route and has increased the entry and exit capacity of Wynyard station to meet demand as Barangaroo is redeveloped. An estimated 20,000 pedestrians per hour can walk through the tunnel.<ref name="BDAWynyardWalk">{{cite web|title=Wynyard Walk|url=http://www.barangaroo.com/discover-barangaroo/transport/wynyard-walk.aspx|publisher=Barangaroo Delivery Authority|date=20 September 2016|accessdate=20 September 2016|archive-date=23 September 2016|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20160923034249/http://www.barangaroo.com/discover-barangaroo/transport/wynyard-walk.aspx|url-status=live}}</ref> In 2009, prior to construction of Barangaroo, the pedestrian tunnel was estimated to cost $100 million.<ref>{{cite web|title=Asset Valuation under TPP07-01 Barangaroo Development Site, Hickson Road Sydney NSW|url=http://www.barangaroo.com/media/59126/redacted%2031%20march%202009%20valuation.pdf|publisher=Land & Property Information Valuation Services|date=31 March 2009|accessdate=22 September 2016|archive-date=22 February 2017|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20170222104359/http://www.barangaroo.com/media/59126/redacted%2031%20march%202009%20valuation.pdf|url-status=live}}</ref>

Under a 7-year agreement from 2023 onwards, the tunnel is branded as '''Westpac Walk''' for sponsorship reasons.<ref>{{Cite web |title=JCDecaux unveils Sydney’s Barangaroo Westpac Walk - AdNews |date=1 May 2023 |url=https://www.adnews.com.au/news/jcdecaux-unveils-sydney-s-barangaroo-westpac-walk |access-date=3 June 2024 |website=www.adnews.com.au |language=en}}</ref>

The construction contract was awarded to [Thiess](/source/Thiess_(company)) in September 2012. In early 2014, construction at the Western Portal was put on hold to allow archaeologists to work on the site to preserve significant European and indigenous artefacts unearthed during excavation.<ref name=Theiss/><ref>[http://www.transport.nsw.gov.au/projects-wynyard-walk Wynyard Walk] {{Webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20160615162838/http://www.transport.nsw.gov.au/projects-wynyard-walk |date=15 June 2016 }} [Transport for NSW](/source/Transport_for_NSW)</ref>

On 19 October 2015, a new pedestrian bridge over Sussex Street was opened to provide a direct route into Barangaroo. Following completion of the walk on 20 September 2016,<ref>{{cite press release |url=http://www.barangaroo.com/news-media/news/wynyard-walk-is-the-ultimate-shortcut-to-barangaroo.aspx |title=Wynyard Walk is the ultimate shortcut to Barangaroo |publisher=Barangaroo Delivery Authority |date=20 September 2016 |accessdate=22 February 2017 |archive-date=16 November 2016 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20161116191122/http://www.barangaroo.com/news-media/news/wynyard-walk-is-the-ultimate-shortcut-to-barangaroo.aspx |url-status=live }}</ref> the plaza created between Sussex Street and the tunnel, was named Napoleon Plaza, to reflect the connection to Francis Girard, who was thought responsible for the naming of the nearby Napoleon Street and who whose flour mill and wharf were nearby.<ref>{{Cite web| title=Naming proposal - Napoleon Plaza | date=2016-06-20 | url=https://meetings.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au/Data/Corporate,%20Finance,%20Properties%20and%20Tenders%20Committee/201606201400/Agenda/160620_CFPTC_ITEM05.pdf | archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20180614125435/https://meetings.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au/Data/Corporate,%20Finance,%20Properties%20and%20Tenders%20Committee/201606201400/Agenda/160620_CFPTC_ITEM05.pdf | archive-date=2018-06-14}}</ref>
