Wulff Land was named after Swedish botanist and Arctic explorer [Thorild Wulff](/source/Thorild_Wulff) (1867–1917), who went with [Knud Rasmussen](/source/Knud_Rasmussen) on the [Second Thule Expedition](/source/Second_Thule_Expedition) and died from fatigue near [Cape Agassiz](/source/Cape_Agassiz_(Greenland)) in southern [Peabody Bay](/source/Peabody_Bay).<ref name="EotA">Mark Nuttall, ''Encyclopedia of the Arctic'', p. 1744 </ref> 

The Wulff Land peninsula is a barren and inhospitable place. Unlike [Peary Land](/source/Peary_Land) to the northeast, no remains of human habitation have been found.

==Geography==
Wulff Land is located to the northeast of [Warming Land](/source/Warming_Land) and east of [Hendrik Island](/source/Hendrik_Island) across the [Sherard Osborn Fjord](/source/Sherard_Osborn_Fjord). [Nares Land](/source/Nares_Land) lies to the east, across the [Victoria Fjord](/source/Victoria_Fjord) and [Stephenson Island](/source/Stephenson_Island_(Greenland)) to the northeast. [Cape May](/source/Cape_May_(Greenland)) in the [Lincoln Sea](/source/Lincoln_Sea) is its northernmost headland.<ref name="prostar"/> To the south, the peninsula is attached to the mainland and its [ice cap](/source/ice_cap).<ref name="mapcarta"/>

Wulff Land is a largely [unglaciated](/source/unglaciated) and mountainous peninsula with a large [firn](/source/firn) cap, The [Sven Hedin Firn](/source/Sven_Hedin_Firn), in its northern part. == Geology ==

A number of [geological formations](/source/Geological_formation) have been defined in Wulff Land, some of which are fossil-bearing.
