Of this area, 58% is used for agricultural purposes, while 20.9% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 19.5% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (1.5%) is non-productive (rivers or lakes). The city is flanked by 2 ravines - the [Galgentobel](/source/Galgentobel), formed by Steinach creek to the east and the [Sitter river valley](/source/Sitter_(river)) to the west.
