# Wisconsin Highway 60

**State Trunk Highway 60**, often called **Highway 60**, **STH-60** or **WIS 60**, is a [state highway](/source/State_highway_(US)) in the U.S. state of [Wisconsin](/source/Wisconsin). It runs east–west in southern Wisconsin from [Prairie du Chien](/source/Prairie_du_Chien,_Wisconsin) on the [Mississippi River](/source/Mississippi_River) at the [Iowa](/source/Iowa) state line to the [village of Grafton](/source/Grafton,_Wisconsin) near [Lake Michigan](/source/Lake_Michigan).

## Route description

### Iowa state line to Sauk Prairie

WIS 60 begins at the [Marquette–Joliet Bridge](/source/Marquette%E2%80%93Joliet_Bridge) above the [Mississippi River](/source/Mississippi_River). Since [US Highway 18](/source/U.S._Route_18_in_Wisconsin) (US 18) and WIS 60 share the same bridge, both routes form a [concurrency](/source/Concurrency_(road)). At the eastern approach, the concurrency briefly becomes a [one-way pair](/source/One-way_pair) before turning south. For eastbound traffic, they utilize Iowa Street; for westbound traffic, they utilize Wisconsin Street. Before turning south on Main Street, they intersect [WIS 27](/source/Wisconsin_Highway_27). After traveling south, they then briefly curve east just north of the [Prairie du Chien Municipal Airport](/source/Prairie_du_Chien_Municipal_Airport). Then, they travel southeastward via WIS 35 and the Great River Road. In Bridgeport, WIS 60 leaves the concurrency, continuing eastward.

At this point, WIS 60 closely parallels the north side of the [Wisconsin River](/source/Wisconsin_River). It then passes through [Wauzeka](/source/Wauzeka,_Wisconsin), intersects [WIS 131](/source/Wisconsin_Highway_131), passes through [Boydtown](/source/Boydtown,_Wisconsin), and then [Easter Rock](/source/Easter_Rock,_Wisconsin). At Easter Rock, WIS 60 runs concurrently with [US 61](/source/U.S._Route_61_in_Wisconsin) for more than 1 mile (1.6 km). After leaving US 61, it passes through [Westport](/source/Westport,_Wisconsin), [Sand Prairie](/source/Sand_Prairie,_Wisconsin), and [Port Andrew](/source/Port_Andrew,_Wisconsin). It then intersects [WIS 193](/source/Wisconsin_Highway_193) south of [Balmoral](/source/Balmoral,_Wisconsin) and [WIS 80](/source/Wisconsin_Highway_80) north of [Muscoda](/source/Muscoda,_Wisconsin). Starting at Gotham, WIS 60 begins to run concurrently with [US 14](/source/U.S._Route_14_in_Wisconsin). At Lone Rock, WIS 130 travels eastward along the concurrency for 2⁄3 mile (1.1 km). WIS 130 then leaves the concurrency and then joins WIS 133. Near Spring Green, [WIS 23](/source/Wisconsin_Highway_23) briefly joins the concurrency. After that, WIS 60 branches off eastward while the others are going south/southeastward. WIS 60 continues to meander north of the Wisconsin River. West of [Sauk City](/source/Sauk_City,_Wisconsin), WIS 60 runs concurrently with [US 12](/source/U.S._Route_12_in_Wisconsin) all the way towards downtown. In downtown Sauk City, WIS 60 turns northward along the west side of the river. As a result, it leaves US 12 while joins WIS 78. In [Prairie du Sac](/source/Prairie_du_Sac,_Wisconsin), WIS 60 turns east, leaving WIS 78, and then crossing over the Wisconsin River.[1]

### Sauk Prairie to Grafton

After crossing the Wisconsin River, WIS 60 then meets [WIS 188](/source/Wisconsin_Highway_188). Both routes then run concurrently eastward for around 1.3 miles (2.1 km). After WIS 188 leaves WIS 60, WIS 60 continues eastward. This time, WIS 60 no longer parallels the Wisconsin River. In [Lodi](/source/Lodi,_Wisconsin), it intersects [WIS 113](/source/Wisconsin_Highway_113). In the middle of Lodi and [Arlington](/source/Arlington,_Wisconsin), it meets [I-39](/source/Interstate_39)/[I-90](/source/Interstate_90_in_Wisconsin)/[I-94](/source/Interstate_94_in_Wisconsin) at a [parclo](/source/Parclo). Between Arlington and [Leeds](/source/Leeds,_Wisconsin), it runs concurrently with [US 51](/source/U.S._Route_51_in_Wisconsin). Shortly after leaving US 51, it then meets [WIS 22](/source/Wisconsin_Highway_22). In [Columbus](/source/Columbus,_Wisconsin), WIS 60 begins to run concurrently with [WIS 16](/source/Wisconsin_Highway_16). They then meet [US 151](/source/U.S._Route_151) at a diamond interchange and then intersect [WIS 73](/source/Wisconsin_Highway_73). Continuing east past Columbus, they then pass through [Astico](/source/Astico,_Wisconsin) and [Lowell](/source/Lowell,_Wisconsin). They then meet [WIS 26](/source/Wisconsin_Highway_26) at a diamond interchange. At this point, WIS 16 turns south to get onto WIS 26.

WIS 60 then passes through [Hustisford](/source/Hustisford,_Wisconsin), then intersects [WIS 67](/source/Wisconsin_Highway_67) north of [Neosho](/source/Neosho,_Wisconsin) and [WIS 83](/source/Wisconsin_Highway_83) in [Hartford](/source/Hartford,_Wisconsin). In [Slinger](/source/Slinger,_Wisconsin), it then intersects [WIS 175](/source/Wisconsin_Highway_175) and then [WIS 164](/source/Wisconsin_Highway_164). Then, it meets [I-41](/source/Interstate_41)/[US 41](/source/U.S._Route_41_in_Wisconsin) at a five-ramp parclo. It then meets [US 45](/source/U.S._Route_45_in_Wisconsin) at a diamond interchange in [Jackson](/source/Jackson_(village),_Wisconsin). Just northwest of [Cedarburg](/source/Cedarburg,_Wisconsin), it intersects [WIS 181](/source/Wisconsin_Highway_181). After passing through downtown [Grafton](/source/Grafton,_Wisconsin), it then meets [I-43](/source/Interstate_43)/[WIS 32](/source/Wisconsin_Highway_32)/[WIS 57](/source/Wisconsin_Highway_57) at a diamond interchange. At this point, WIS 60 ends there and continues on as County Trunk Highway Q (CTH-Q).[1]
