# Winterpills

**Winterpills** are an American [indie rock](/source/Indie_rock) band from [Northampton, Massachusetts](/source/Northampton,_Massachusetts), [United States](/source/United_States). Its members are Philip Price, Flora Reed, Dave Hower, Dennis Crommett and Max Germer,[1] sometimes joined on tour and in studio by Brian Akey,[2] [José Ayerve](/source/Jos%C3%A9_Ayerve) and [Henning Ohlenbusch](/source/Henning_Ohlenbusch). They released their [debut eponymous album](/source/Winterpills_(album)) in 2005 on [Signature Sounds](/source/Signature_Sounds), and their second album on the same label was released in 2007, titled *[The Light Divides](/source/The_Light_Divides)*. Their third album, *[Central Chambers](/source/Central_Chambers_(album))*, was released in 2008, also on Signature Sounds, and a vinyl 7" single of "Broken Arm"/"A Folded Cloth" was released in the UK in 2009 on [Riot Act Records](/source/Riot_Act_Records). A 6-song EP, *[Tuxedo of Ashes](/source/Tuxedo_of_Ashes)*, was released in 2010. *[All My Lovely Goners](/source/All_My_Lovely_Goners)* was released in 2012, and *Love Songs* in 2016.[3]

## History

As veteran musicians of the [Northampton](/source/Northampton,_Massachusetts) indie music scene, the five members of Winterpills formed from a group of friends "hanging out at Dennis [Crommett]'s house" into a band in the winter of 2003.[4] They began playing out regionally in [New England](/source/New_England) the following spring, and released their [eponymous album](/source/Winterpills_(album)) in 2005. *Winterpills* was received warmly by critics—garnering comparisons to [The Byrds](/source/The_Byrds), [Simon and Garfunkel](/source/Simon_and_Garfunkel), and [Elliott Smith](/source/Elliott_Smith)[4]—and landed in the Top 100 for both [iTunes](/source/ITunes) and [Amazon.com](/source/Amazon.com).[5] The band carved out a sound characterized by acoustic folk-pop, male-female harmonies, and melancholic songwriting by Price.
