It is situated {{cvt|14|km}} north of [Weiden in der Oberpfalz](/source/Weiden_in_der_Oberpfalz).

The [German Continental Deep Drilling Programme](/source/German_Continental_Deep_Drilling_Programme), which reached a super-deep maximum depth of {{convert|9,101|m}}, is located near Windischeschenbach.

Windischeschenbach is generally considered the centre of [Zoigl](/source/Zoigl) beer.
