He was nominated for a [Tony Award](/source/Tony_Award) for Best Director of a Play for [Martin McDonagh](/source/Martin_McDonagh)'s ''[The Lieutenant of Inishmore](/source/The_Lieutenant_of_Inishmore)'' as well as a [Lucille Lortel](/source/Lucille_Lortel_Awards) nomination for his direction of [Tracy Letts](/source/Tracy_Letts)'s [Killer Joe](/source/Killer_Joe_(play)).

==Biography==
Milam began his career in Seattle working as an actor before moving to Chicago and getting work as an assistant director at the [Victory Gardens](/source/Victory_Gardens_Theater), Remains, and [Steppenwolf Theatre](/source/Steppenwolf_Theatre_Company) Companies. He directed the world premiere production of Killer Joe at the Next Theatre, which subsequently moved to the [Traverse Theatre](/source/Traverse_Theatre) for the [Edinburgh Festival](/source/Edinburgh_Festival), where it won a Fringe First Award, before transferring to London.  A subsequent production of Lett's next play, [Bug](/source/Bug_(play)), transferred to [The Gate Theatre](/source/Gate_Theatre_(London)) in London and Milam began working on both sides of the Atlantic.
