'''William Terry Jackson''' (December 29, 1794 – September 15, 1882) was a [U.S. Representative](/source/United_States_House_of_Representatives) from [New York](/source/New_York_(state)).

Born in [Chester, New York](/source/Chester_(town)%2C_New_York), Jackson attended the common schools and later studied surveying.
He taught school in [Goshen, New York](/source/Goshen_(village)%2C_New_York) from 1813–15. He was employed as a surveyor and later engaged in mercantile pursuits in Chester and [Owego](/source/Owego_(village)%2C_New_York), and Bermerville, [Sussex County, New Jersey](/source/Sussex_County%2C_New_Jersey). He moved to [Havana, Chemung County (now Montour, Schuyler County, New York)](/source/Montour%2C_New_York) in 1825 and engaged in mercantile pursuits.

He was a [Justice of the Peace](/source/Justice_of_the_Peace) 1836–1838. He served as judge of the court of common pleas and general sessions of Chemung County 1839–1846. He was again a [Justice of the Peace](/source/Justice_of_the_Peace), town of [Catharine, New York](/source/Catharine%2C_New_York), originally in [Chemung County](/source/Chemung_County%2C_New_York), but later incorporated into [Schuyler County](/source/Schuyler_County%2C_New_York).

Jackson was elected as a [Whig](/source/Whig_Party_(United_States)) to the [Thirty-first](/source/31st_United_States_Congress) Congress (March 4, 1849 – March 4, 1851). He resumed mercantile pursuits.
He died in [Montour Falls, New York](/source/Montour_Falls%2C_New_York) on September 15, 1882, aged 87 and was interred in Montour Falls Cemetery.
