# William Roderick Ross

**William Roderick Ross** (March 29, 1869[1] – February 4, 1928[2]) was a lawyer and political figure in [British Columbia](/source/British_Columbia). He represented [Fernie](/source/Fernie_(electoral_district)) from 1903 to 1916 and [Fort George](/source/Fort_George_(electoral_district)) from 1916 to 1920 in the [Legislative Assembly of British Columbia](/source/Legislative_Assembly_of_British_Columbia) as a [Conservative](/source/British_Columbia_Conservative_Party).

He was born in [Fort Chipewyan](/source/Fort_Chipewyan,_Alberta), [Athabasca](/source/District_of_Athabasca), the son of Donald Ross, and was educated at [St. John's College](/source/St._John's_College,_University_of_Manitoba) in [Winnipeg](/source/Winnipeg). Ross was called to the Manitoba bar in 1890. He practised in Winnipeg from 1890 to 1896 and then at [Fort Steele](/source/Fort_Steele) from 1897 to 1900. Ross moved to [Fernie](/source/Fernie,_British_Columbia) in 1901. He married Leila Young. In 1906, he was named [King's Counsel](/source/King's_Counsel).[1] Ross served in the provincial cabinet as Minister of Lands from 1910 to 1916.[3] He did not seek a seventh term in the Legislature in the 1924 provincial election. He died in [Cranbrook](/source/Cranbrook,_British_Columbia) at the age of 58.[2]
