# William P. Ficker

**William P. "Bill" Ficker** was an American sailor in the [Star class](/source/Star_(sailboat)). He won the [1958 Star World Championship](/source/1958_Star_World_Championship) together with [Mark Yorston](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Mark_Yorston&action=edit&redlink=1) and finished third in the 1959 edition. Subsequently, Ficker was the skipper of the successful [1970 America's Cup](/source/1970_America's_Cup) defender *[Intrepid](/source/Intrepid_(yacht))*.[1]

Ficker was inducted into the [National Sailing Hall of Fame](/source/National_Sailing_Hall_of_Fame) in 2016.[2]
