# William Jaques

**William Jaques** (May 3, 1861 – June 27, 1927) was an [Ontario](/source/Ontario) physician and political figure. He represented [Haldimand](/source/Haldimand_(federal_electoral_district)) in the [Legislative Assembly of Ontario](/source/Legislative_Assembly_of_Ontario) from 1914 to 1919 as a [Conservative](/source/Progressive_Conservative_Party_of_Canada) member.

He was born in [Walpole Township](/source/Walpole_Township,_Ontario), [Haldimand County](/source/Haldimand_County,_Ontario), [Canada West](/source/Canada_West), the son of Anthony Jaques who was descended from [Huguenots](/source/Huguenot) who settled in [England](/source/England). Jaques was educated at the Toronto School of Medicine and set up practice in [Jarvis](/source/Jarvis,_Ontario). In 1888, he married Zetta Seatter. Jaques ran unsuccessfully against [Christian Kohler](/source/Christian_Kohler) in 1911 for the provincial seat before he was elected in 1914. He was defeated in 1919 by Warren Stringer of the [United Farmers of Ontario](/source/United_Farmers_of_Ontario).[1] He died June 27, 1927.[2]
