# William Denovan

**William Denovan** was a [Scottish](/source/Scotland) [philosopher](/source/Philosopher) with an interest in [theophysics](/source/Theophysics) and [physics](/source/Physics). One of the earliest occurrences of the term [multiverse](/source/Multiverse) used in reference to the physical world is due to Denovan, in a letter to [Scientific American](/source/Scientific_American) in 1873.[1]
