The son of John Williams Commerell and his wife, Sophia Commerell (née Bosanquet),<ref name=odnb>{{cite ODNB|url=http://www.oxforddnb.com/view/article/32520?docPos=1|title=John Edmund Commerell|year=2004 |doi=10.1093/ref:odnb/32520 |accessdate=22 August 2019}}</ref> he was born at [Marylebone](/source/Marylebone) in October 1822. He died at [Westminster](/source/Westminster) in November 1858.
