**William Salzmann** (born 19 November 2003) is an Australian cricketer who plays for [New South Wales](/source/New_South_Wales_cricket_team). He is a right-handed batsman and right-arm medium-fast bowler. He made his [List A cricket](/source/List_A_cricket) debut for New South Wales on 23 September 2022 against [Victoria](/source/Victoria_cricket_team), and his [first-class](/source/First-class_cricket) debut on 4 October 2025 against [Western Australia](/source/Western_Australia_cricket_team).

## Early life

From [Tahmoor](/source/Tahmoor%2C_New_South_Wales), in [Macarthur, New South Wales](/source/Macarthur%2C_New_South_Wales),[1] Salzmann plays club cricket for Campbelltown Camden District Cricket Club.[2] He featured as NSW Metro won the 2022 national under-19 championships; although injury prevented him from bowling he impressed as a batsman, having a top score of 96 and hitting the winning runs in the grand final with a [six](/source/Six_(cricket)).[3] He is of [German](/source/Germans) descent.[*[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)*]

## Career

Salzmann signed a rookie contract with [New South Wales cricket team](/source/New_South_Wales_cricket_team) in May 2022.[4] He made his [List A cricket](/source/List_A_cricket) debut for NSW on 23 September 2022 against [Victoria](/source/Victoria_cricket_team). He took a wicket with his third ball in professional cricket, to dismiss [Mackenzie Harvey](/source/Mackenzie_Harvey).[5] In November 2023, whilst still a teenager, Salzmann took four wickets to help New South Wales beat [Western Australia cricket team](/source/Western_Australia_cricket_team) in the [2023–24 Marsh One-Day Cup](/source/2023%E2%80%9324_Marsh_One-Day_Cup).[6][7]

On his [first-class](/source/First-class_cricket) debut, in the first round of the [2025–26 Sheffield Shield season](/source/2025%E2%80%9326_Sheffield_Shield_season), Salzmann made 43 and 72, top-scoring in each innings for New South Wales, who defeated Western Australia by 74 runs.[8]

## International career

Salzmann played at the [2022 Under-19 Cricket World Cup](/source/2022_Under-19_Cricket_World_Cup) held in the [Caribbean](/source/Caribbean), where he was the leading wicket-taker for [Australia U19](/source/Australia_national_under-19_cricket_team) as they reached the semi-finals.[9][10]
