# Will Adkin

**William Anthony Adkin** (born 9 April 1990) is an English [first-class cricketer](/source/First-class_cricket). Adkin is a left-handed [batsman](/source/Batsman_(cricket)) who bowls right-arm [medium pace](/source/Seam_bowling). He was born at [Redhill, Surrey](/source/Redhill,_Surrey), and was educated at the [Sackville School, East Grinstead](/source/Sackville_School,_East_Grinstead), before attending [Southampton Solent University](/source/Southampton_Solent_University).[1]

Adkin made his debut for [Sussex](/source/Sussex_County_Cricket_Club) in a [List A](/source/List_A_cricket) match against the touring [Bangladeshis](/source/Bangladesh_national_cricket_team) at the [County Ground, Hove](/source/County_Ground,_Hove), in 2010.[2] Batting at number eight, Adkin contributed 30 runs to Sussex's total of 253 all out, before he was dismissed by [Mashrafe Mortaza](/source/Mashrafe_Mortaza). He took the wicket of [Jahurul Islam](/source/Jahurul_Islam_(cricketer)) in the Bangladeshis innings, with Sussex dismissing them for 104 to win the match by 149 runs.[3] Later in that season he made his [first-class](/source/First-class_cricket) debut against [Surrey](/source/Surrey_County_Cricket_Club) at [Woodbridge Road, Guildford](/source/Sports_Ground,_Woodbridge_Road,_Guildford), in the [County Championship](/source/2010_County_Championship).[4] He scored 45 in the match and took figures of 1–38 with the ball.[5] With the need to concentrate on his university studies, Adkin made just four first-class appearances in the [2011 season](/source/2011_English_cricket_season), playing in against [Oxford MCCU](/source/Oxford_MCC_University) in May, as well as making three appearances in the [County Championship](/source/2011_County_Championship) later in the season.[4] Adkin also made two List A appearances in that seasons [Clydesdale Bank 40](/source/2011_Clydesdale_Bank_40), against [Derbyshire](/source/Derbyshire_County_Cricket_Club) and the [Netherlands](/source/Netherlands_national_cricket_team).[2]

Following the 2011 season, Sussex were invited by the [West Indies Cricket Board](/source/West_Indies_Cricket_Board) to take part in the [2011–12 Caribbean Twenty20](/source/2011%E2%80%9312_Caribbean_Twenty20) in January 2012 as an overseas team.[6] Adkin was a part of the Sussex squad which took part in the tournament, with him making his [Twenty20](/source/Twenty20) debut against the [Combined Campuses and Colleges](/source/Combined_Campuses_and_Colleges_cricket_team). He made a second appearance in the tournament against [Barbados](/source/Barbados_national_cricket_team).[7] Adkin appeared just once for Sussex in the [2012 season](/source/2012_English_cricket_season), making a single first-class appearance late in Sussex's final [County Championship](/source/2012_County_Championship) match of the season against [Durham](/source/Durham_County_Cricket_Club) at the [Riverside Ground, Chester-le-Street](/source/Riverside_Ground).[4] He was released by Sussex at the end of that season, with the county's professional cricket manager, [Mark Robinson](/source/Mark_Robinson_(cricketer,_born_1966)), stating "opportunities were limited last year for Will and seemed likely to be again [next season](/source/2013_English_cricket_season)."[8]
