Musical artist

**Jeremiah Justin Simms** (July 24, 2003 – May 5, 2025), known professionally as **Wifiskeleton** (stylized in all [lowercase](/source/Letter_case)), was an American rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, guitarist, and [YouTuber](/source/YouTuber). He was a founder of the collective [GothAngelz](/source/List_of_Internet_rap_collectives#GothAngelz) and was involved in the underground music scene.

In 2025, Wifiskeleton died due to a suspected [drug overdose](/source/Drug_overdose), which led to his single "Nope Your Too Late I Already Died" going viral worldwide and posthumously earning him over eight million monthly listeners on [Spotify](/source/Spotify). The single was certified platinum in the United States, debuting and peaking at number 91 on the [*Billboard* Hot 100](/source/Billboard_Hot_100). It also appeared on several other music charts around the world.

## Life and career

### 2003-2016: Early life

Jeremiah Justin Simms was born on July 24, 2003, in [Atlanta, Georgia](/source/Atlanta%2C_Georgia).[1]

### 2017–2023: Cyrus, Fuxkcy, Secretsaturdays and *67

In the late 2010s, Simms gained popularity through a [YouTube](/source/YouTube) commentary channel under the name Cyrus.[1] Around this time, Simms began writing music under the aliases Fuxkcy and Secretsaturdays.[2][3] In an April 2025 interview with *&friends*, he stated that he began making music at the age of 16 with his friends.[4] In the early 2020s, Simms began performing [sigilkore](/source/Sigilkore) songs under the alias *67.[1] His work gained attention on streaming platforms and social media during the [COVID-19 pandemic](/source/COVID-19_pandemic).[5][6]

### 2022–2025: Wifiskeleton

In late 2022, Simms began making music under the name Wifiskeleton.[1] He co-founded the underground collective [GothAngelz](/source/List_of_Internet_rap_collectives#GothAngelz) with fellow artists and collaborators Keepsecrets, Witchbox, and [Mandy](/source/Jaydes).[3] As Wifiskeleton, he released new music prolifically, but would sometimes remove large portions of his back catalog from streaming platforms without notice.[1] He released his debut mixtape, *Lovefool*, in June 2024, followed by *Suburban Daredevil* in October of the same year.[3][7] Both mixtapes were recorded on [Temple University](/source/Temple_University)'s campus.[8] The latter featured the song "Nope Your Too Late I Already Died", which went viral on [TikTok](/source/TikTok) and became his first song to chart, debuting and peaking at number 91 on the [*Billboard* Hot 100](/source/Billboard_Hot_100).[7][9] Following his death, *[Pitchfork](/source/Pitchfork_(website))* stated that the song saw a surge in global popularity and streaming activity.[10]

In April 2025, he released his final mixtape, *Pony*, just over two weeks before his death.[1] Wifiskeleton had allegations of [grooming](/source/Sexual_grooming) circulating online before his death.[10][11]

## Musical style and artistry

Wifiskeleton's songs incorporated elements of [emo rap](/source/Emo_rap), [lo-fi](/source/Lo-fi_music), guitar music, and [hip-hop](/source/Hip-hop).[1] According to *[AllMusic](/source/AllMusic)*, his lyrics often explored "extremely depressive themes of death, despair, self-harm, and other joyless topics".[1] He often used imagery of the 90s through early 2010s cartoons, [emoji](/source/Emoji) [clip art](/source/Clip_art), drawings, and early [internet culture](/source/Internet_culture) throughout his music artwork.[2] A staple of his songs were his self-deprecating [text-to-speech](/source/Text-to-speech) [tags](/source/Producer_tag) such as "You are so goddamn pathetic," "You creepy loser," and "You are a creep and a weirdo".[2]

## Death

On May 5, 2025, Wifiskeleton died in [Miami, Florida](/source/Miami), due to a suspected [drug overdose](/source/Drug_overdose).[1][10] The report of his death was initially shared by fellow artist Witchbox in the GothAngelz [Discord](/source/Discord) server,[11] stating that he was "already cold" when police and medics arrived.[6] On the day before he died, he appeared on an Instagram livestream in which he made statements indicating [suicidal](/source/Suicide) intent: "I'm finna pull up to the gas station and post the addy on my story. If you wanna pull up and kill me, it's the time to do it. If you wanna get a flick with me, it's the time to do it. I'ma overdose tonight and kill myself", though he stated immediately after that he made the remark in jest.[6][12] His death came weeks before scheduled performances at the [Mercury Lounge](/source/Mercury_Lounge) in [New York City](/source/New_York_City) and [The Echo](/source/The_Echo_(venue)) in [Los Angeles](/source/Los_Angeles).[11]

On May 7, 2025, Hallwood Recordings and 9th St. Records confirmed Wifiskeleton's death in a statement reported by *[Billboard](/source/Billboard_(magazine))*, describing him as "a rare soul whose art, energy and presence moved so many."[7] In the days following his death, his [Apple Music](/source/Apple_Music) and [Spotify](/source/Spotify) accounts were compromised, resulting in the unauthorized upload of a track titled "Cinco de Mayo Was a Nightmare LOL", which contained a text-to-speech segment blaming Wifiskeleton's death on his friend Icemop, who was present at the time of his death.[13] The upload was later removed.[13]

## Impact

According to *[Pitchfork](/source/Pitchfork_(website))* writer [Kieran Press-Reynolds](/source/Kieran_Press-Reynolds), Wifiskeleton became a stylistic reference point within the "[online indie](/source/Internet_rock) music boom" and what was dubbed a "new wave of [SoundCloud indie rock](/source/SoundCloud_indie)". Artist Ayowitty stated that a new wave of musicians were making "Wifiskeleton type songs" and replicating his sound to the point of cliché, with fellow artist Bunii adding that artists imitating Wifiskeleton's sound were popular across [TikTok](/source/TikTok).[10] In March 2026, *[The Fader](/source/The_Fader)* critic Vivian Medithi noted that wifiskeleton was a major figure in the SoundCloud indie scene.[14]
