'''Wiernsheim''' ({{IPA|de|ˈviːɐ̯nshaɪm}}) is a municipality in the [Enz district](/source/Enz_(district)) of [Baden-Württemberg](/source/Baden-W%C3%BCrttemberg), [Germany](/source/Germany).

==History==
Wiernsheim became a possession of [Maulbronn Monastery](/source/Maulbronn_Monastery) in 1259 and was governed by the monastery's district office until 1806. When Maulbronn became a possession of the [Duchy of Württemberg](/source/Duchy_of_W%C3%BCrttemberg) in 1504, Wiernsheim and the village of Iptingen also became part of the Duchy. The villages of Pinache and Serres were founded in 1699 by [Waldensians](/source/Waldensians) fleeing persecution in [Piedmont](/source/Piedmont). On 18 March 1806, the administrative district of Maulbronn was reorganized into {{ill|Oberamt Maulbronn|de|lt=an Oberamt}}, to which Wiernsheim and Iptingen were assigned. Iptingen was reassigned around 1842 to the jurisdiction of [Vaihingen](/source/Vaihingen_an_der_Enz). It was joined on 1 October 1938 when the district of Maulbronn was dissolved and its constituents were assigned to the new {{ill|Landkreis Vaihingen|de}}. On 1 January 1970, Wiernsheim incorporated Pinache. As part of {{ill|1973 Baden-Württemberg district reform|de|Kreisreform Baden-Württemberg 1973}}, Wiernsheim, Iptingen, and Serres were assigned on 1 January 1973 to the newly created [Enz district](/source/Enzkreis). The next year, Wiernsheim incorporated Iptingen and Serres.<ref name=LEO-BW>{{cite web|title=Wiernsheim|url=https://www.leo-bw.de/web/guest/detail-gis/-/Detail/details/ORT/labw_ortslexikon/7112/Wiernsheim|website=[LEO-BW](/source/LEO-BW)|publisher=[Baden-Württemberg](/source/Baden-W%C3%BCrttemberg)|language=de|accessdate=26 June 2020}}</ref>

==Geography==
The municipality (''[Gemeinde](/source/Municipalities_of_Germany)'') of Wiernsheim covers {{convert|24.62|km|sp=us}} of the [Enzkreis](/source/Enzkreis), a district of the [state](/source/States_of_Germany) of [Baden-Württemberg](/source/Baden-W%C3%BCrttemberg) and the [Federal Republic of Germany](/source/Federal_Republic_of_Germany). It is located in the metropolitan areas of [Karlsruhe](/source/Karlsruhe) and [Pforzheim](/source/Pforzheim), along the southwestern edge of the {{ill|Neckar basin|de|Neckarbecken}}. Wiernsheim is physically in the [Heckengäu](/source/Heckeng%C3%A4u), a region characterized by wooded and [karstified](/source/karstified) hills of [muschelkalk](/source/muschelkalk). Elevation above sea level in municipal area ranges from a low of {{convert|274|m|sp=us}} [Normalnull](/source/Normalnull) (NN) on the [Kreuzbach](/source/Kreuzbach_(Strudelbach)) and a high of {{convert|464|m|sp=us}} NN in the southwest.<ref name=LEO-BW/>

==Coat of arms==
Wiernsheims' municipal [coat of arms](/source/coat_of_arms) shows a [golden](/source/Or_(heraldry)) [crosier](/source/crosier), wrapped in [silver](/source/Argent) oak branches, upon a [field](/source/Field_(heraldry)) of [field](/source/Sable_(heraldry)) framed on either side by five golden [six-pointed star](/source/six-pointed_star)s. The crosier is a reference to Maulbronn, though the oak branches wrapped around it have no definite meaning. The stars were added around 1900 and are references to the Waldensian foundations at the villages of Pinache and Serres. The present pattern was devised in 1939 and its [tincture](/source/Tincture_(heraldry)) in 1956. The [Federal Ministry of the Interior](/source/Federal_Ministry_of_the_Interior%2C_Building_and_Community) approved both for official use by Wiernsheim on 12 December 1957.<ref name=LEO-BW/>
