After [Teia](/source/Teia)'s defeat at the hands of the [Byzantine](/source/Byzantine_Empire) eunuch general [Narses](/source/Narses) at the [Battle of Mons Lactarius](/source/Battle_of_Mons_Lactarius), south of present-day [Naples](/source/Naples), in October 552 or early 553, organized Ostrogothic resistance ended.
