***White1*** is the third studio album by American [drone metal](/source/Drone_metal) band [Sunn O)))](/source/Sunn_O)))), released in 2003. It was the most significant departure from their original style to date. Each track was experimental in its own way, with [Julian Cope](/source/Julian_Cope) reciting poetry for half of "My Wall", [Norwegian](/source/Norwegian_language) lyrics sung by [Runhild Gammelsæter](/source/Runhild_Gammels%C3%A6ter) of [Thorr's Hammer](/source/Thorr's_Hammer) as an intro to a [drum machine](/source/Drum_machine) and [stoner metal](/source/Stoner_metal) bass riff in "The Gates of Ballard", and the [drone](/source/Drone_music) track "A Shaving of the Horn that Speared You".

The lyrics of "The Gates of Ballard" come from "Håvard Hedde", a Norwegian [folk](/source/Folk_music) song. Another metal version of "Håvard Hedde" was recorded in 1995 by the Norwegian band [Storm](/source/Storm_(Norwegian_band)).

In [*Q* magazine's](/source/Q_(magazine)) August issue (named the loud issue), they named *White1* as the 18th loudest album of all time, just above [AC/DC](/source/AC%2FDC)'s *[Back in Black](/source/Back_in_Black)* and below [the Jimi Hendrix Experience](/source/The_Jimi_Hendrix_Experience)'s album *[Are You Experienced](/source/Are_You_Experienced)*.[3]
