**Whitcombe** is a small [village](/source/Village) and [civil parish](/source/Civil_parishes_in_England) in the [Dorset](/source/Dorset_(unitary_authority)) unitary authority area of [Dorset](/source/Dorset), [England](/source/England), situated 2 miles (3.2 km) southeast of [Dorchester](/source/Dorchester%2C_Dorset). [Dorset County Council](/source/Dorset_County_Council)'s 2013 mid-year estimate of the population of the parish is 20.[1]

Whitcombe village is next to the [A352](/source/A352_road) main road between [Broadmayne](/source/Broadmayne) and Dorchester, between the parishes of [West Knighton](/source/West_Knighton%2C_Dorset) and Broadmayne to the east, [West Stafford](/source/West_Stafford) to the north, and [Winterborne Came](/source/Winterborne_Came) to the west.[2] Whitcombe does not form an [ecclesiastical parish](/source/Ecclesiastical_parish), although [Whitcombe Church](/source/Whitcombe_Church) has registers dating from 1762. The earlier registers were destroyed in a fire. The church, now redundant, is in a "modest but perfect location" according to [Pevsner](/source/Nikolaus_Pevsner).[3]

In the surrounding area there are a number of prehistoric earthworks.[2] Whitcombe was originally recorded as Widecome, with a land measurement of two hides. [King Athelstan](/source/King_Athelstan) gave it to the [Milton Abbey](/source/Milton_Abbey_School#History_of_Milton_Abbey_School). At the time of the [Dissolution of the Monasteries](/source/Dissolution_of_the_Monasteries), its ownership passed to the King. Around 1600, it was sold to a Mr Hull from [Tolpuddle](/source/Tolpuddle).

Whitcombe Hill is located 0.25 miles (0.40 km) west of the church.[3] A [Portland stone](/source/Portland_stone) relief of a bearded man on horseback, dating from 2nd–3rd century AD, was found here in 1963 and subsequently added to the collection of the [Dorset Museum](/source/Dorset_Museum) in Dorchester.

There are a [Grade II](/source/Grade_II) listed [manor house](/source/Manor_house),[4] riding [stables](/source/Stables) and a [tithe barn](/source/Tithe_barn) at Whitcombe.
