**Whasset** or **Whassett** is a hamlet near [Milnthorpe](/source/Milnthorpe) in [Westmorland and Furness](/source/Westmorland_and_Furness), [Cumbria](/source/Cumbria), England. It is in the [historic county](/source/Historic_counties_of_England) of [Westmorland](/source/Westmorland). It is in the parish of [Beetham](/source/Beetham)[1] and lies south of [Ackenthwaite](/source/Ackenthwaite).

The spelling *Whasset*, with single "t", is used on [Ordnance Survey](/source/Ordnance_Survey)'s 1:50,000 and 1:25,000 maps and by Beetham Parish Council.[1] The spelling *Whassett*, with double "t", is used by the Royal Mail[2] and some other sources.[3]

To the south of the hamlet, beside the [River Bela](/source/River_Bela), is the Wings School, a residential school for 60 students aged 11 to 17 with social, emotional, behavioural and associated difficulties.[4] It occupies the site of Bela River Camp, a [World War II](/source/World_War_II) prisoner of war camp which was later used as a prison.[5][6]
