'''Wharram''' is a [civil parish](/source/civil_parish) in [North Yorkshire](/source/North_Yorkshire), England. It lies on the [Yorkshire Wolds](/source/Yorkshire_Wolds), {{convert|6|mi|0}} south-east of [Malton](/source/Malton%2C_North_Yorkshire). The principal settlement is the village of [Wharram-le-Street](/source/Wharram-le-Street), and the parish also includes the [deserted medieval village](/source/deserted_medieval_village) of [Wharram Percy](/source/Wharram_Percy) and the deserted medieval villages (now hamlets) of Raisthorpe<ref>{{cite web |title=Beresford's Lost Villages. The parish consists of high Wolds, rising to {{convert|226|m|order=flip}} above sea level, into which are cut a number of [dry valley](/source/dry_valley)s. In the north-east of the parish is the head of the [Great Wold Valley](/source/Great_Wold_Valley).  A deep valley, known variously as Water Dale and Burdale,<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.thixendale.org.uk/info/dales.html|website=The Village of Thixendale|title=Dales|accessdate=28 August 2022}}</ref> runs across the south of the parish from [Fimber](/source/Fimber) in the east to [Thixendale](/source/Thixendale) in the west, and a series of shorter valleys (Court Dale, William Dale, Fairy Dale, Middle Dale and Whay Dale) cut into the northern side of this valley.  In the west of the parish, Drue Dale joins Deep Dale to form a broader valley in which Wharram Percy lies.  In the 19th century the [Malton and Driffield Junction Railway](/source/Malton_and_Driffield_Junction_Railway) was built though these valleys from north to south, connected by the [Burdale Tunnel](/source/Burdale_Tunnel).  The wolds and valleys of the parish are now linked by three long-distance footpaths, the [Yorkshire Wolds Way](/source/Yorkshire_Wolds_Way), the [Chalkland Way](/source/Chalkland_Way) and the [Centenary Way](/source/Centenary_Way).

The parish was created in 1935, when the civil parishes of Wharram-le-Street (population 133), Wharram Percy (population 40) and Raisthorpe and Burdale (population 89) were abolished.<ref>{{cite vob|name=Wharram CP| url=https://www.visionofbritain.org.uk/unit/10473720 | accessdate=28 August 2022}} </ref>  At that time the parish was part of [Norton Rural District](/source/Norton_Rural_District_(Yorkshire)) in the [East Riding of Yorkshire](/source/East_Riding_of_Yorkshire). In 1974 it was transferred to the new county of North Yorkshire. From 1974 to 2023 it was part of the district of [Ryedale](/source/Ryedale), it is now administered by the unitary [North Yorkshire Council](/source/North_Yorkshire_Council).
