# Westerbecker Berg

The **Westerbecker Berg** is a forested hill in the [Teutoburg Forest](/source/Teutoburg_Forest) and, at ,[1] the highest point in [Tecklenburg Land](/source/Tecklenburg_Land), the county of [Steinfurt](/source/Kreis_Steinfurt) and the administrative region of [Münster](/source/Regierungsbezirk_M%C3%BCnster) in the German state of [North Rhine-Westphalia](/source/North_Rhine-Westphalia).

## Location

The Westerbecker Berg lies in the [TERRA.vita Nature Park](/source/TERRA.vita_Nature_Park) (formerly the North Teutoburg Forest and Wiehen Hills Nature Park) in the municipality of [Lienen](/source/Lienen) north of the farming community of Westerbeck. To the south and southwest of the hill the terrain transitions into the [Münsterland Park Landscape](/source/M%C3%BCnsterland_Park_Landscape) of [Münsterland](/source/M%C3%BCnsterland) which enables very good long-distance views.

## History

The historical trade route known as the *[Hermannsweg](/source/Hermannsweg)*, now a long-distance trail, runs over the Westerbecker Berg. The trail runs along the crest of the hills that form the [Teutoburg Forest](/source/Teutoburg_Forest) from [Rheine](/source/Rheine) to [Velmerstot](/source/Velmerstot) in the [Egge](/source/Eggegebirge).

Quarries on the hillsides recall the once flourishing extraction of [limestone](/source/Limestone) here. As a result, a cableway was built to the [Hüggel](/source/H%C3%BCggel), which may be seen to the north-northeast. Limestone was transported on the [Hüggelbahn](/source/H%C3%BCggelbahn) to the *Georgsmarienhütte* works and used as aggregate limestone (*Zuschlagskalk*).
