# Wesley Timoteo

**Wesley-Thomas Lança Timóteo** (born April 9, 2000) is a Canadian professional [soccer](/source/Association_football) player who plays for [Atlético Ottawa](/source/Atl%C3%A9tico_Ottawa) in the [Canadian Premier League](/source/Canadian_Premier_League).

## Early life

Timoteo was born and raised in [Montreal](/source/Montreal) to parents of Portuguese descent.[1] At the age of nine, he played youth soccer with SC Panellinios,[2] while also being part of the École Sportive de Montréal Canada program.[3] In 2013, he joined the [Montreal Impact Academy](/source/Montreal_Impact_Academy).[4]

At the age of fourteen, Timoteo headed to Europe and featured in the Swedish [Gothia Cup](/source/Gothia_Cup) tournament.[5] From there, he moved to Portugal where he joined [C.F. Esperança de Lagos](/source/C.F._Esperan%C3%A7a_de_Lagos), and later moved to [Belenenses](/source/C.F._Os_Belenenses) in June 2015.[2] Prior to joining Belenenses, he had trials with the [Sporting](/source/Sporting_CP_(youth)) and [Benfica](/source/S.L._Benfica_(youth)) academies, the latter of whom referred him to Belenenses.[6] He later spent time in the academy of [Estoril](/source/G.D._Estoril_Praia).[7]

## Club career

In 2018, Timoteo made one appearance for [Belenenses](/source/C.F._Os_Belenenses) in the Portuguese fifth tier.[citation needed] during the 2019–20 season, he appeared for [Estoril Praia B](/source/G.D._Estoril_Praia) in the fifth tier.[6]

In 2020, Timoteo signed with [Cypriot First Division](/source/Cypriot_First_Division) side [PO Xylotymbou](/source/Podosfairikos_Omilos_Xylotymbou_2006), making twenty league appearances and one appearance in the [Cypriot Cup](/source/Cypriot_Cup) that season.[8][9]

In 2021, he returned to Portugal with [S.C. Lusitânia](/source/S.C._Lusit%C3%A2nia) in the fifth tier [Liga Meo Azores](/source/Liga_Meo_Azores).[citation needed]

In March 2022, Timoteo trialed with [Canadian Premier League](/source/Canadian_Premier_League) club [FC Edmonton](/source/FC_Edmonton).[10][11] With Edmonton experiencing significant financial difficulties, Timoteo was signed by fellow CPL club [HFX Wanderers](/source/HFX_Wanderers_FC) and immediately loaned to the Edmonton.[7] He scored his first professional goal on May 14 against [Pacific FC](/source/Pacific_FC).[12] In the final game of the season on October 8, he scored the winning goal from a direct free kick in a 3–1 victory over [Valour FC](/source/Valour_FC).[13] In December 2022, HFX announced they had signed Timoteo to a new contract through 2024, with an option for 2025.[14]

In March 2026, he signed with [Atlético Ottawa](/source/Atl%C3%A9tico_Ottawa) in the [Canadian Premier League](/source/Canadian_Premier_League) for the 2026 season, with an option for 2027.[15]

## International career

In 2012, he represented Canada at the 2012 [Danone Nations Cup](/source/Danone_Nations_Cup), an Under-12 tournament.[16]

In February 2016, Timoteo participated in an evaluation camp for the [Canadian U-17 national team](/source/Canada_men's_national_under-17_soccer_team).[17]
