# Wendy Burrell

**Wendy Burrell** (born 16 May 1952) is a retired British international [swimmer](/source/Swimming_(sport)) who competed at the [1968 Summer Olympics](/source/1968_Summer_Olympics).[1]

## Biography

Burrell swam for the Carlisle Swimming Club.[2] At the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City, she participated in [three events](/source/Swimming_at_the_1968_Summer_Olympics); the 100 metres and 200 metres backstroke and the medley relay, where she competed with [Margaret Auton](/source/Margaret_Auton), [Dorothy Harrison](/source/Dorothy_Harrison) and [Alexandra Jackson](/source/Alexandra_Jackson), finishing sixth.[3]

Burrell represented the [England team](/source/England_at_the_1970_British_Commonwealth_Games)[4] at the [1970 British Commonwealth Games](/source/1970_British_Commonwealth_Games) in [Edinburgh](/source/Edinburgh), Scotland,[5] where she participated in the [three swimming events](/source/Swimming_at_the_1970_British_Commonwealth_Games).[6][7][8]

At the ASA National British Championships she won the [110 yards backstroke](/source/British_Swimming_Championships_-_100_metres_backstroke_winners) title in 1968 and the [200 metres backstroke](/source/British_Swimming_Championships_-_200_metres_backstroke_winners) title twice (1968, 1970).[9][10]
