**Weida** (ˈvaɪda) is a town in the [district of Greiz](/source/Greiz_(district)), in [Thuringia](/source/Thuringia), [Germany](/source/Germany), situated 12 km south of [Gera](/source/Gera) on the river [Weida](/source/Weida_(White_Elster)).

## History

Within the [German Empire](/source/German_Empire) (1871-1918), Weida was part of the [Grand Duchy of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach](/source/Grand_Duchy_of_Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach).

The [Eisenhammer Weida](/source/Eisenhammer_Weida) is a historic [hammer mill](/source/Hammer_mill).
