# We Are Balboa

**We Are Balboa** are a Spanish [rock](/source/Rock_music) band.

## History

They started out in 2003, under another name, **Balboa**. May 2003 saw the release of their first album, and they opened for [Mudhoney](/source/Mudhoney) and [Maná](/source/Man%C3%A1).

In 2005 they decided to change their name and have, since then, been known as We Are Balboa. They won the final of the Spanish edition of [Global Battle of the Bands](/source/Global_Battle_of_the_Bands) in December, coming first out of 40 bands. It was at their [London Astoria](/source/London_Astoria) gig that they met [Jon Gray](/source/Jon_Gray) who (having produced [The Coral](/source/The_Coral), [The Zutons](/source/The_Zutons), [The Kooks](/source/The_Kooks), [Editors](/source/Editors_(band)), [Radio 4](/source/Radio_4_(band)), [The Subways](/source/The_Subways)) went on to produce the band's latest album, *Space Between Bodies*. The album was mastered by [Kevin Metcalf](/source/Kevin_Metcalf) (of [Oasis](/source/Oasis_(band)), [Supergrass](/source/Supergrass), [The Kinks](/source/The_Kinks) and [Rufus Wainwright](/source/Rufus_Wainwright) fame) at [Soundmasters Studios](/source/Soundmasters_Studios), [London](/source/London).

Prior to the album being released in [Spain](/source/Spain), the album's first track and single was chosen as the closing theme to an [ITV GRANADA](/source/ITV_GRANADA) show.

They toured [England](/source/England) throughout Fall 2007.
