Canonical URL: https://mediated.wiki/source/Wayne_Yip > Markdown URL: https://mediated.wiki/source/Wayne_Yip.md > Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wayne_Yip > Source revision: 1334692176 > License: Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/) **Wayne Che Yip** (born 1981) is a British [television director](/source/Television_director), most notably connected with *[Utopia](/source/Utopia_(British_TV_series))*, *[Doctor Who](/source/Doctor_Who)* and [Amazon Prime](/source/Amazon_Prime)'s *[The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power](/source/The_Lord_of_the_Rings:_The_Rings_of_Power)* and *[Fallout](/source/Fallout_(American_TV_series))*. ## Early life and education Wayne was born in Oxford in 1981 and was educated at [Dragon School](/source/Dragon_School) (alongside classmate [Tom Hiddleston](/source/Tom_Hiddleston))[3], [Abingdon School](/source/Abingdon_School), [D'Overbroeck's College](/source/D'Overbroeck's_College) and later studied at [Banbury College](/source/Banbury_and_Bicester_College)[1] where he graduated in 2004 with a degree in graphic design.[4] ## Career ### Work with Alex García López He developed an interest in filmmaking after working in the [Phoenix Picturehouse](/source/Phoenix_Picturehouse) in [Jericho](/source/Jericho,_Oxford) and came to prominence when he co-wrote and directed *Happy Birthday Grandad* with [Alex García López](/source/Alex_Garc%C3%ADa_L%C3%B3pez), which won the 2007 Sixty Seconds of Fame [BAFTA](/source/British_Academy_Film_Awards).[1][5] The pair then created the short films *Samantha* (2008), *Be Lucky* (2008) and *Diego's Story* (2009),[6] as well as the episode "[Would Like To Meet](/source/Coming_Up_(TV_series)#Series_8_(2010))" (2010) of the [Channel 4](/source/Channel_4) [anthology](/source/Anthology) series [*Coming Up*](/source/Coming_Up_(TV_series)).[7] Following on from this, they went on to direct the first half of the fourth series of *[Secret Diary of a Call Girl](/source/Secret_Diary_of_a_Call_Girl)* (2011), starring [Billie Piper](/source/Billie_Piper), three episodes of the third series of *[Misfits](/source/Misfits_(TV_series))* and the second half of the first series of [Dennis Kelly](/source/Dennis_Kelly_(writer))'s [*Utopia*](/source/Utopia_(British_TV_series)) (2013).[8] ### Later work In 2013, he came back to *[Misfits](/source/Misfits_(TV_series))* to direct the final episode of the show, this time without Garcia Lopez. In 2015, he directed four episodes of [*Tatau*](/source/Tatau_(TV_series)). He then directed two episodes of the series [*Class*](/source/Class_(2016_TV_series)), "[Detained"](/source/Detained_(Class)) and "[The Metaphysical Engine, or What Quill Did](/source/The_Metaphysical_Engine,_or_What_Quill_Did)".
