==Career==
Hampson competed in the main singles draw of the [Australian Open](/source/Australian_Open) three times and [Wimbledon](/source/Wimbledon_Championships) twice, without managing to register a win.<ref name=ATP>[http://www.atpworldtour.com/Tennis/Players/Ha/W/Wayne-Hampson.aspx ATP World Tour: Wayne Hampson]</ref> The closest he got was at the [1982 Australian Open](/source/1982_Australian_Open), where he received a first round bye, before a five set loss in the second round to [Eric Sherbeck](/source/Eric_Sherbeck), the last decided in a tiebreak.<ref name=ATP/> He had more success in the doubles, making the third round at the [1982 Australian Open](/source/1982_Australian_Open) (with [Broderick Dyke](/source/Broderick_Dyke)) and the  [1983 Wimbledon Championships](/source/1983_Wimbledon_Championships) (with [Chris Johnstone](/source/Chris_Johnstone)).<ref name=ATP/>

He was a doubles finalist at the 1982 [Melbourne Indoor](/source/Melbourne_Indoor) tournament, the [1982 South Australian Open](/source/1982_South_Australian_Open) and the [1984 Lorraine Open](/source/1984_Lorraine_Open), but lost them all.<ref name=ATP/> On the singles circuit, Hampson had his best performance in 1980, making a quarter-final appearance in Perth.<ref name=ATP/> He had a win over [Kim Warwick](/source/Kim_Warwick) at the [Sydney Outdoor](/source/Sydney_International) in 1981 and beat [John Alexander](/source/John_Alexander_(tennis)) en route to the round of 16 at [Queen's](/source/1982_Stella_Artois_Championships) in 1982.<ref name=ATP/>
