# Wayne Bastrup

**Wayne Bastrup** (born January 20, 1976) is an American actor and musician. He is known for portraying the younger version of Oscar winner [J. K. Simmons](/source/J._K._Simmons)' character Detective O'Brien in the fifth installment of the [*Terminator* film franchise](/source/Terminator_(franchise)), *[Terminator Genisys](/source/Terminator_Genisys)*.[1][2] Bastrup also appears in the critically acclaimed 2014 American biographical film *[Love and Mercy](/source/Love_%26_Mercy_(film))*, directed by [Bill Pohlad](/source/Bill_Pohlad), about musician and songwriter [Brian Wilson](/source/Brian_Wilson) of [The Beach Boys](/source/The_Beach_Boys).[3] He has performed as a guest-star on numerous television shows, including *[The Mentalist](/source/The_Mentalist)*, , [*Leverage*](/source/Leverage_(American_TV_series)), [*Awake*](/source/Awake_(TV_series)), [*Whitney,*](/source/Whitney_(TV_series)) *[Angie Tribeca](/source/Angie_Tribeca)*, *[L.A.'s Finest](/source/L.A.'s_Finest)* and *[Truth Be Told](/source/Truth_Be_Told_(2019_TV_series))*.

In October 2015, it was announced that Bastrup was joining the cast of *Sully*, an upcoming American biographical drama film directed by [Clint Eastwood](/source/Clint_Eastwood), based on the autobiography Highest Duty by Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger.[4]

Bastrup is also the drummer for the Seattle-based band Gunbunny. His drumming style has been described as "driving" and "textured," with a live performance review noting his capabilities as "stellar."[5] He was born January 20, 1976, in [Port Townsend](/source/Port_Townsend), [Washington](/source/Washington_(U.S._state)), USA.[6] He earned a master's degree in Architecture from the [University of Washington](/source/University_of_Washington) in 2002.
