==History==

Watts Hall was originally constructed in 1954 to house the [Chemical Abstract Service](/source/Chemical_Abstracts_Service) of the [American Chemical Society](/source/American_Chemical_Society). In 1965, the CAS moved off of Ohio State's campus to a building on Dodridge Street. After the building was vacated, it was repurposed for the Department of Ceramic Engineering.<ref name="Herrick" />

In November 2016, the courtyard adjacent to Watts Hall was the scene of [a car ramming and stabbing attack](/source/2016_Ohio_State_University_attack) that injured 10 people. Immediately after the attack, the perpetrator was fatally shot by an OSU police officer.<ref name="Dispatch">{{cite web|url=http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/local/2016/11/28/active-shooter.html|title=Ohio State attack: Nine transported to hospitals, one suspect killed|work=The Columbus Dispatch|date=November 28, 2016|access-date=November 28, 2016|archive-date=November 28, 2016|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20161128235741/http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/local/2016/11/28/active-shooter.html|url-status=live}}</ref>
