# Watling Academy

**Watling Academy** is a [coeducational](/source/Coeducational) [secondary school](/source/Secondary_school) located in the [Whitehouse](/source/Whitehouse,_Milton_Keynes) area of [Milton Keynes](/source/Milton_Keynes), in the [English county](/source/English_county) of [Buckinghamshire](/source/Buckinghamshire).[1]

## History

Construction of the school began in 2019, in anticipation of the planned demand for secondary school places from the large new developments on the western side of the city; the £40 million project to construct the school is on a 10-hectare (25-acre) site.[2] The school formally opened on a temporary site in September 2020,[3] and occupation of the new buildings began in June 2021.[4]

Watling Academy is a [free school](/source/Free_school_(England)),[5] and is part of the Denbigh Alliance Multi Academy Trust, which also operates [Denbigh School](/source/Denbigh_School) in [Shenley Church End](/source/Shenley_Church_End).[6]
