'''Waterloo Underground Depot''' is a [London Underground](/source/London_Underground) maintenance depot which stables the [Waterloo & City line](/source/Waterloo_%26_City_line)'s fleet of [1992 Stock](/source/London_Underground_1992_Stock) trains. The depot is entirely below ground and is situated beyond the Waterloo & City line platform end at [Waterloo Underground station](/source/Waterloo_tube_station).<ref name="WGG1987">{{harvnb|Webster|Greengrass|Greaves|1987|p=84}}</ref> Trains from [Bank](/source/Bank_and_Monument_stations) reverse at the depot before returning. It is one of the smallest depots on the Underground network, and one of the only two depots to be completely underground, the other being [White City Depot](/source/White_City_Depot) on the [Central line](/source/Central_line_(London_Underground)). For larger items like rolling stock, lengths of rail and other heavy machinery, access to the depot can only be achieved via a shaft on Spur Road, requiring a large crane to do so.<ref name=":4">{{Cite web|date=5 May 2006|title=Waterloo & City line / 5 Month closure / Scope of works|url=http://www.metronetrail.com/default.asp?sID=1141210191343|url-status=dead|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20060505103521/http://www.metronetrail.com/default.asp?sID=1141210191343|archive-date=5 May 2006|access-date=2 May 2021|website=[Metronet](/source/Metronet_(British_infrastructure_company))}}</ref>

==History==
The depot opened in 1898 when the Waterloo and City line began operation. Until the early 1990s, [Class 487](/source/British_Rail_Class_487) EMUs were allocated to the depot.<ref name="Marsden1987">{{harvnb|Marsden|1987|p=115}}</ref> Since 1993, [Class 482](/source/British_Rail_Class_482) (now [1992 Stock](/source/London_Underground_1992_Stock)) trains are stabled at the depot.
