**Wat Sam Phraya** ([Thai](/source/Thai_language): วัดสามพระยา, pronounced [\[wát sǎːm pʰrā.jāː\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA/Thai)) is a *[khwaeng](/source/Khwaeng)* (subdistrict) in [Phra Nakhon District](/source/Phra_Nakhon_District), [Bangkok](/source/Bangkok).

## History

Wat Sam Phraya is an area outside [Rattanakosin Island](/source/Rattanakosin_Island) or Bangkok's old town zone. Considered to be the northern end of [Bang Lamphu](/source/Bang_Lamphu). It is named after the local temple [Wat Sam Phraya](/source/Wat_Sam_Phraya) and it is the location of the district office. "Bang Khun Phrom" is another unofficial name for it collectively with the subdistrict adjacent to [Bang Khun Phrom](/source/Bang_Khun_Phrom). For Thai people, the area is familiar as the location of Channel 4, the country's first television station that has been operating since 1955 and is currently [Channel 9 MCOT HD](/source/Channel_9_MCOT_HD). Channel 4 was therefore often referred to as "Channel 4 Bang Khun Phrom".[3]

## Geography

Wat Sam Phraya is the part on the northwestmost of the district. It is bounded by other subdistricts (from north clockwise): [Wachiraphayaban](/source/Wachiraphayaban) in [Dusit District](/source/Dusit_District) ([Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem](/source/Khlong_Phadung_Krung_Kasem) is the dividing line), Bang Khun Phrom and [Ban Phan Thom](/source/Ban_Phan_Thom) in its district ([Samsen Road](/source/Samsen_Road) is the dividing line), [Chana Songkhram](/source/Chana_Songkhram_subdistrict) in its district ([Khlong Rop Krung](/source/Khlong_Rop_Krung) is the dividing line), and [Bang Yi Khan](/source/Bang_Yi_Khan) in [Bang Phlat District](/source/Bang_Phlat_District) (across the [Chao Phraya River](/source/Chao_Phraya_River)).[4]
