# Wasmes

**Wasmes** (wam; wa: *Wame-e-Borinaedje*) is a village of [Wallonia](/source/Wallonia) and a district of the municipality of [Colfontaine](/source/Colfontaine), located in the [province of Hainaut](/source/Hainaut_Province), [Belgium](/source/Belgium).

In January 1879 [Vincent van Gogh](/source/Vincent_van_Gogh) temporarily moved to the village, in the hamlet of [Petit Wasmes](/source/Petit_Wasmes), to take up a post as missionary.[1]
