# Warmington Priory

Monastic foundation in Warwickshire, England

**Warmington Priory** was a [Benedictine](/source/Benedictine) priory or more probably a cell in [Warmington](/source/Warmington%2C_Warwickshire), [Warwickshire](/source/Warwickshire), England. It was apparently founded by the monks of [Préaux Abbey](/source/Pr%C3%A9aux_Abbey) in Normandy after [Henry de Newburgh](/source/Henry_de_Newburgh), [earl of Warwick](/source/Earl_of_Warwick), gave them his lands in Warmington in the reign of [Henry I of England](/source/Henry_I_of_England). Whatever its initial status, by the 14th century it was a cell of [Toft Monks Priory](/source/Toft_Monks_Priory) in Norfolk, which similarly belonged to Préaux Abbey. After the dissolution of the [alien priories](/source/Alien_priories) by [Henry V](/source/Henry_V_of_England) it was granted in 1428 to the Carthusians of [Witham Charterhouse](/source/Witham_Charterhouse) in Somerset.[1][2]
