'''Warfield''' is a village and [civil parish](/source/civil_parish) in the [Bracknell Forest](/source/Bracknell_Forest) district, in the ceremonial county of [Berkshire](/source/Berkshire), England. In 2021 it had a population of 11,260.

==History==
Warfield was originally an [Anglo-Saxon](/source/Anglo-Saxons) settlement and is recorded in the [Domesday Book](/source/Domesday_Book) as ''Warwelt'' [sic]. The name is believed to have originated from the [Old English](/source/Old_English) ''wær'' + ''feld'', meaning 'Open land by a weir'.<ref>Mills, A.D: ''A Dictionary of English Place-Names'', page 346. Oxford University Press, 1991.</ref> The [medieval church](/source/Warfield_Church) is one of the finest in [Berkshire](/source/Berkshire), particularly noted for its [Decorated Period](/source/Decorated_Period) [chancel](/source/chancel) with beautiful carvings and '[Green Men](/source/Green_Man)'.  It is a [Grade II* listed](/source/Grade_II*_listed) building and located on Church Lane, ¾ of a mile north-east of the modern centre of the village. It is dedicated to the archangel [Michael](/source/Michael_(archangel)). The area around the church has been designated a conservation area since 1974 primarily to protect the character and nature of this historical building.

There are several [memorials](/source/memorials) to the Stavertons who lived at the old [manor house](/source/manor_house) in the [moat](/source/moat) at Hayley Green. This was replaced, in the [Georgian period](/source/Georgian_period), by Warfield House ''alias'' Warfield Grove, the home of Admiral Sir [George Bowyer](/source/Sir_George_Bowyer%2C_5th_Baronet) and, later, the political writer, Sir [John Hippisley](/source/Sir_John_Hippisley%2C_1st_Baronet). Another fine old [country house](/source/country_house) was Warfield Park. Warfield is a [civil parish](/source/civil_parish), with a [parish council](/source/Parish_councils_in_England) that first met in 1894. It is one of six towns and parishes that make up the [Bracknell Forest](/source/Bracknell_Forest). Warfield residents are represented by councillors on Bracknell Forest Council from the wards of Binfield North & Warfield West, and Winkfield & Warfield East.
